2 Chronicles 27

Jotham was a king of Judah.

His father Uzziah had let his pride become his downfall at the end of his life (2 Chronicles 26:16). Uzziah had leprosy until the day he died – after he was unfaithful to God (:21).

Jotham saw all of this unfold. Jotham was 25 when he became king. And in the account in 2 Chronicles 27:6, it says Jotham “grew powerful because he walked steadfastly before the Lord his God.”

Do you think seeing what his father went through because of his unfaithfulness (leprosy) made him want to walk steadfastly?

Do you think his mother Jerusha had anything to do with his walk? She is mentioned in 2 Chronicles 27:1.

Jotham was steadfast, and yet his son Ahaz was one of the worst Kings of Judah ever – promoting wickedness. (2 Chronicles 28:19).

What do you think influences people the most to be “steadfast in their walk”? Seeing others that were not faithful to the Lord and the consequences of that?? Having a faithful mother, perhaps??
